It’s National Suicide Prevention Week

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walk, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.  This years Out Of The Darkness walk will be this Saturday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.  The walk begins at the south entrance of the Coliseum’s parking lot.  We will cross over Highway 90 to the boardwalk and walk east on the boardwalk until the boardwalk ends.  We will then turn around and walk back to the Coliseum.  The total distance is 1.5 miles.  (Restroom facilities will be available inside the Coliseum.)

Free parking will be provided at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.  You can use the link below to register for this years walk until noon on Friday.  Registration will also be held on Saturday morning at the coliseum at 8am.  Opening ceremonies for this years walk will begin at 9:30, and the walk begins at 9:45am. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the event. AND – with a $10 donation, you can pick up an AFSP Pooch bandana at the Paws for Prevention Tent.

If you, a friend, or family member need someone to talk to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline Number is always available to reach out to someone who cares, and can offer help.  Call:  1-800-273-8255.  ~~  Patty Steele
